Accessibility Statement
Last updated: June 1, 2026
Our commitment
The White Box Studio is committed to making this website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We treat accessibility as both a legal requirement under Israeli law and a fundamental matter of respect for everyone who visits the site.
Standards and compliance
This website is designed to meet the Israeli Standard ת"י 5568 for web accessibility, which is based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA published by the W3C. The relevant Israeli regulation is תקנות שוויון זכויות לאנשים עם מוגבלות (התאמות נגישות לשירות), התשע"ג–2013 — regulation 35, which governs services provided to the public via the internet.
Scope
This statement applies to the entire White Box Studio website at https://www.white-box.co.il, including:
- The main landing page (English and Hebrew)
- This accessibility statement page
Accessibility features
The site includes the following accessibility features:
- Semantic HTML structure with proper landmarks (
<header>,<nav>,<main>,<footer>) and a single, logically-ordered heading hierarchy. - Skip-to-content link at the top of the page, visible on keyboard focus, allowing users to bypass the navigation and jump directly to the main content.
- Full keyboard operability: every interactive element — navigation links, language toggle, mobile menu, and contact CTAs — is reachable and operable by keyboard alone, with a clearly visible focus indicator.
- Mobile menu focus management: when the menu opens, focus moves into the menu and is contained within it via the
inertattribute on the rest of the page; when it closes, focus returns to the trigger button. Closing is available via the X button, the Escape key, or by tapping any nav link. - Color contrast: text content meets or exceeds the WCAG AA contrast ratio of 4.5:1 (or 3:1 for large text). Decorative atmospheric elements (described below) are explicitly outside this requirement under the WCAG 1.4.3 exception for purely decorative text.
- Bilingual support with proper language tagging: every element with translatable content uses the appropriate
langattribute, so that screen readers switch pronunciation correctly between Hebrew and English. RTL document direction is handled at the document level. - Image alt text: every non-decorative image has descriptive alt text; purely decorative images use
alt="". - Bidirectional text handling: phone numbers and other Latin-script content embedded in Hebrew text are wrapped in
<bdi>and isolated via CSS, ensuring correct visual rendering and screen-reader announcement. - Responsive layout: the site is fully usable at 200% browser zoom and on mobile viewports as narrow as 375px, with no horizontal scrolling or content loss.
- Animation discipline: all animations are short (≤1.2 seconds), based only on opacity and transform, and do not flash.
Decorative atmospheric elements
The site uses large decorative numerals ("01" through "09") at the corners of section panels as part of the brand's visual identity. These elements are deliberately rendered at low contrast as atmospheric texture and are marked aria-hidden="true" so that screen readers do not announce them. They are not part of the page's informational content — the section number is also presented at standard contrast in the section eyebrow ("01 / Plaster wall finishes", etc.). Per WCAG 2.0 Success Criterion 1.4.3, purely decorative text is exempt from the minimum contrast requirement.
Tested assistive technologies and browsers
The site has been tested with:
- Screen readers: VoiceOver (macOS, iOS)
- Browsers: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge — current versions
- Mobile: Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android
- Keyboard-only navigation: full traversal verified
- Automated audits: axe-core 4.10 and Lighthouse Accessibility
Known limitations
- Focus containment on legacy browsers: the mobile menu uses the modern
inertattribute to keep keyboard focus within the menu while it is open. This is supported in Chrome 102+, Safari 15.5+, and Firefox 112+. Users on significantly older browsers may experience focus reaching content behind the overlay, although that content remains visually hidden. - Future content: when new images or copy are added to the site, the studio is committed to maintaining the same accessibility standards (alt text, heading order, contrast).
